It’s a simple UK environmental issue but just recently the river Leri burst in west Wales and sent torrents of water throughout the villages and towns in the area. More than 1,000 people were relocated to dry areas and more than 150 were caught in the flooding and had to be rescued. The cause of the UK environmental issue is fairly simple though: the Atlantic jet stream.
Strong air currents like the Atlantic jet stream often have incredible effects on the weather and in this case it was huge amounts of rain being brought into the area. The Leri river can only handle so much water and this proved to be over that limit, thus the flooding. Over 36 hours a month’s worth of rain fell and simply overwhelmed the environment, causing the flooding. Luckily there were no casualties.
